Laboratory

Pets to Claws In-House Laboratory

At Paws to Claws Veterinary Clinic, we go the extra mile to ensure you the best health care for your pets. Our Magnolia and Houston, TX locations offer an on-site laboratory, so we can conduct the clinical chemistry analysis needed to diagnose your pet’s illness.

.

Like many veterinary clinics, we perform basic lab tests at our clinic. We typically collect the samples at the clinic, but in some cases, you, the pet owner, may collect a stool or urine sample from your pet at home. You then bring them to our clinic for the lab tests. We conduct several test types at our in-house laboratory.

While our veterinarian or veterinary technician takes the lab sample, our trained and certified laboratory staff processes the results of the tests we conduct during our examination of your pet. This includes urinalysis, cytology, bacteriology, mycology, endocrinology, coagulation, immunology, hematology and hematopathology, virology, microbiology and parasitology.

Conducting the analysis of tests like complete blood count (CBC) and related blood tests, helps us decide on treatment more quickly. On-site, we can determine the animals’ platelet, red blood cell, and white blood cell counts. This provides important information in the diagnosis and monitoring of infections and diseases such as cancer.

What Our We Test For

We take and analyze stool samples to detect the cysts, eggs, or larva of parasites. This allows us to identify giardia, cryptosporidium, hookworms, roundworms, and tapeworms.

A simple urine test and analysis helps detect diseases of the urinary tract. We examine the color, clarity, and scent of the urine. We also do a chemical analysis to determine its density, examine pH level to understand the acidity, examine the amounts of protein and glucose, and look for fragmented blood cells. We conduct a microscopic examination of your pet’s urine sediment to determine if there is bleeding in the urinary tract or an infection is present. Urine tests are crucial in determining if your pet suffers from kidney disease or a bladder infection.
